Open an account in an American bank
Good afternoon.
I have heard that it is not easy for a foreigner to open an account in an American bank. On the one hand, the US is considered a reliable jurisdiction, but on the other hand, the document requirements are quite strict. Some people write that it is possible to open an account even without a visa, remotely, while others claim that it is impossible without being physically present and having a US address. I am interested in the practical side: is it really possible for a non-resident to open an account (for example, through an ITIN or with a passport from their country), and to what extent does such an account then fully function for international transfers and storage of funds? Is it even worth the effort, or is it better to consider other jurisdictions that are open to foreigners without unnecessary bureaucracy?
